The Ohio State football team donned pads for the first time Wednesday and practiced in fall-like weather for the customary two-and-a-half hours at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center.

“I thought we got after it pretty good,” Buckeye boss John Cooper said. “We had a lot of people flying around out there and there was a lot of enthusiasm. It was a good practice for the first day in full gear.”

After focusing on individual and position drills early, the Buckeyes spent much of the latter part of practice in a controlled scrimmage situation.

“Again, it is way too early to tell too much, but I was happy with the intensity,” Cooper said. “It gives us some film to look at, and that will allow us to do a better job of teaching prior to the next practice.”

Several former OSU players were in attendance at Wednesday’s workout, including Mike Tomczak, Chris Spielman and Jim Lachey.

The Buckeyes next workout is slated for Friday. The team is then off until Monday (4/10).

Spring Drills conclude Apr. 29 with the annual Scarlet & Gray Game in Crew Stadium. Tickets for the latter still remain and can be purchased at all Ticketmaster locations in Ohio ($5 each).
