COLUMBUS, Ohio — For the second consecutive week two Buckeyes have earned Western Collegiate Hockey Association honors in the same week as Maddy Field was named the WCHA Offensive Player of the Week, while Liz Schepers earned the WCHA Rookie of the Week, powered by GoodWood Hockey, conference officials announced on Tuesday.
Field led the team in points over the weekend, tallying four from two goals and two assists. On Friday, she finished with a lone assist, but kicked things up a notch as the Buckeyes went for the sweep on Saturday. The junior scored the third and fifth goals of the game for Ohio State, while assisting on the game winning goal that helped seal the first sweep of Minnesota in program history.
That game-winning goal from Saturday was scored by Schepers, who actually netted both of the game winners this weekend. After the Buckeyes tied Friday’s game in the third period, Schepers lit the lamp with less than four minutes to play to complete the OSU comeback and clinch the 3-2 win. Saturday saw the Buckeyes control the Golden Gophers from the start, and Schepers contributed to that with the second Ohio State goal of the game, and with an assist on the last goal of the game that iced the 5-1 OSU win.
The Buckeyes hit the road for the first time in 2018 this weekend as they take on the Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs. The series opener is set for a 4:07 p.m. ET start on Friday.
