Buckeyes open season at home Aug. 29 against James Madison

COLUMBUS, Ohio The Ohio State field hockey team will host 10 home games this fall as head coach Anne Wilkinson announced its 2009 schedule Wednesday. The Buckeyes, who finished with a 14-7 record last season and ranked No. 14 in the final 2008 National Field Hockey Coaches Association poll, will face nine opponents nationally ranked at the conclusion of the 2008 season, including two NCAA Final Four participants in Syracuse and Iowa.

“We have an outstanding home schedule starting with James Madison and finishing with Duke, with a great Big Ten slate with in between,” Wilkinson said. “Our road schedule is challenging, but we excited for the season.”

The Buckeyes begin play in Columbus the weekend of Aug. 29-30 against James Madison and Saint Louis, respectively. They then hit the road Labor Day weekend to Syracuse, N.Y., to play Syracuse and Princeton.

Ohio State then faces a pair of in-state opponents, hosting Ohio (Sept. 11) and traveling to Kent State (Sept. 16). The team returns home that following weekend for games against Vermont and Central Michigan.

After traveling to Ball State (Sept. 22), the Buckeyes begin Big Ten action in Columbus against Indiana Sept. 27. Back-to-back road games follow at Penn State and Miami, Oct. 2 and 7, respectively, before a three-game week-long homestand.

Ohio State first takes on Iowa (Oct. 11). The two teams last met in the 2008 Big Ten Championship game in which the Buckeyes fell to the Hawkeyes in overtime. OSU then faces Louisville in a non-conference matchup (Oct. 14), before meeting Michigan (Oct. 17).

The Buckeyes play their last two conference games on the road at Michigan State (Oct. 23) and Northwestern (Oct. 31). Sandwiched in between is the final regular-season home game against national powerhouse Duke, Oct. 25.

Postseason play begins with the Big Ten tournament in East Lansing, Mich., Nov. 5-8. The NCAA first and second rounds will be held at regional sites, Nov. 14-15, with Wake Forest hosting the NCAA championship, Nov. 20 and 22, in Winston-Salem, N.C.
