The Ohio State fencing team began its season with a dual meet against former Buckeye fencing alumni and varsity fencers. The alumnae won in the epee 11-5 and twice in the sabre, 6-3 and 45-44. The current Buckeyes posted a win in the foil competition 14-2. Today’s match was also a first for head coach Vladimir Nazlymov, a native of the Soviet Union. “All my life as an athlete, I’ve been going after gold medals and I don’t change my goals,” he said. “I am very competitive and I expect my students to be very competitive.” Next week, Ohio State will travel to Evanston, Ill., to compete in the annual Remenyik open, named after legendary OSU fencing coach, Charlotte Remenyik.
