Columbus, Ohio-The No. 4 ranked Ohio State fencing team competed this weekend at the Notre Dame Duals in South Bend, Ind. The men went 5-1 on the weekend to improve their record to 20-2 overall. The women suffered defeat for the first time this year, going 4-2 with losses to No. 1 Penn State and Air Force. The women are now 21-2 overall.
The men defeated Cal State Fullerton (18-9), Lawrence (27-0), Detroit (26-1), UC San Diego (24-3) and Air Force (16-11). Their only loss came at the hands of the No. 1 Nittany Lions, 22-5.
The women were victorious over Cal State Fullerton (16-11), Lawrence (18-3), Detroit (17-10), UC San Diego (14-13) and Air Force (16-11). Their two losses were to No. 1 Penn State (11-7) and Air Force (15-12).
The Buckeyes were without several of their top competitors as Jason Rogers (So. Los Angeles, Calif.), Adam Crompton (Fr., Newark, N.J.), Colin Parker (Jr., Fayetteville, Ga.), Hanna Thompson (So., Rochester, N.Y) and Metta Thompson (So., Rochester, N.Y.) are competing in a world cup event to help them qualify for the US National Team.
The Buckeyes will be back in action this weekend at the Wayne State Duals, Feb. 8-9 in Detroit, Mich.
