Fannell, an attackman from St. Catherine’s, Ontario, had 24 points for the Buckeyes last year, with 15 goals and nine assists, while playing in 15 games in his first year with the team. He was an Ohio State Scholar-Athlete in 2016.
Pearson, a midfielder who hails from Langley, British Columbia, had 20 goals and 23 points while playing in 13 games a season ago. In his Buckeye career he has seen action in 23 games, starting six, with 22 goals, three assists and 25 points. Pearson is an Ohio State Scholar-Athlete and Academic All-Big Ten choice.
Withers, a native of Peterborough, Ontario, was the 2016 Big Ten Specialist of the Year and a First Team All-B1G honoree. He led the Big Ten in faceoff winning percentage (.607) and groundballs per game (7.27), ranking in the Top 12 in the NCAA in both categories. He has played in 43 games for the Scarlet and Gray, with a .558 faceoff winning percentage and 192 groundballs. A captain for the team this year, Withers is an Ohio State Scholar-Athlete and Academic All-Big Ten selection.
In the preseason coaches’ poll, Maryland was the unanimous choice to finish first, followed by Johns Hopkins in second, with Penn State third, Ohio State and Rutgers tied for fourth and Michigan sixth.
The Buckeyes’ regular season starts with four home games in a row, as the Buckeyes host Furman Sunday, Detroit Feb. 11, UMass Feb. 18 and Jacksonville Feb. 25. All four games are scheduled to be played inside Woody Hayes Athletic Center and are expected to sell out before game day. Fans are encouraged to prepurchase tickets to guarantee a seat.
