COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State men’s tennis head coach Ty Tucker announced Blaz Rola, a native of Slovenia, will be joining the Buckeyes for the 2011 season after signing a National Letter of Intent. Rola currently is ranked 534 in the ATP singles standings and is 619 as a doubles player.

“Blaz is a big time talent with a legitimate chance to play tennis at the next level,” Tucker said. “He has had success in minor league pro tennis, junior grand slams and looks forward to developing his hard court game while pursuing an international business degree. The coaching staff believes he can play at the top of college tennis right from the start.”

So far in his young career on the men’s professional circuit, Rola has captured a pair of doubles titles out of three appearances and one singles championship in two showings. Compiling a career-circuit singles record of 33-27 and a doubles ledger of 17-10, Rola’s 2010 records are 21-10 and 11-5, respectively.

On June 13, Rola won a Futures event in both singles and doubles in Maribor, Slovenia. After dropping the first set on the clay surface, Rola rallied to beat Hungary’s Gyorgy Balazs 2-6, 6-4, 6-4. Two days earlier Rola paired with Martin Rmus (Slovenia) for his second professional doubles title. The duo outperformed Spain’s Javier Marti and Sergio Perez-Perez 6-3, 6-3.
