COLUMBUS, Ohio – %^$Ohio State Track and Field was well represented this week in the Big Ten Conference as two Buckeyes were chosen for athlete of the week, one representing the women’s and one for men’s outdoor track. Ohio State’s Donica Merriman (Jr., Trotwood, Ohio/Trotwood-Madison) and Andrew Pierce (Jr., Yellow Springs, Ohio/Yellow Springs) were named the Men’s and Women’s Big Ten Athletes of the Week, the conference announced yesterday.%^$

%^$ Merriman had an excellent performance in four events at Saturday’s United States Track Coaches Association Quad Meet in Tallahassee, Fla., leading the Buckeyes to an overall second-place finish. She placed first in the 100-meter hurdles (12.92), earning a NCAA automatic qualifying time for the second time this season. She placed first in the 200-meter dash with a provisional qualifying time of 23.12 and placed second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.65. Merriman also anchored the 4×100-meter relay team composed of Nicolette Chambers (Fr., New Haven, Conn./James Hillhouse), Dominque Calloway (Sr., Aurora, Colo./Denver South) and Tina Johnson (Jr., Burlington, N.J./Burlington Regional), which earned a provisional qualifying time of 44.99.%^$

%^$ Andrew Pierce helped lead the Buckeyes to a first-place finish on Saturday by winning two events. For the third time this season, Pierce earned a provisional qualifying time of 45.49 in the 400-meter dash, only nine-hundredths of a second away from an automatic qualifying time. He also placed first in the 200-meter dash with a season best time of 21.24.%^$

%^$ Last week Dominque Calloway was named the Big Ten Athlete of the Week for her outstanding performance at the Brutus Hamilton Memorial Invitational on April 8 where she earned two first-place finishes and anchored the first-place women’s 4×400-meter relay team.%^$

%^$ The Buckeyes return to Columbus to host their first home meet of the outdoor season on Saturday, April 22 against the University of Michigan and Seton Hall University. This will be the first meet held at the new Jesse Owens Track and Field Complex.%^$
