COLUMBUS, Ohio – For the second week in a row, Francesca Di Lorenzo, a freshman on the Ohio State women’s tennis team, has been named the Big Ten Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week. Di Lorenzo, from New Albany, Ohio, was 3-0 in both singles and doubles last weekend when the Buckeyes made a run to the ITA National Team Indoor Championship semifinals. Di Lorenzo’s three singles wins were all over Top 30 players and came at the No. 1 position.

The freshman, ranked second nationally, posted the Buckeyes’ third point against No. 30-ranked Fresno State in a 4-2 win Friday, topping No. 26-ranked Mayar Sherif Ahmed in straight sets. She and Olivia Sneed, her doubles partner, recorded the No. 16-ranked Buckeyes’ win in doubles vs. the Bulldogs.

Against No. 1-ranked and defending NCAA champion Vanderbilt, Di Lorenzo beat No. 24 Sydney Campbell in three sets, again posting the third point for the Buckeyes, who went on to win 4-3. In doubles, Di Lorenzo and Sneed tied doubles at a match each with a 6-2 victory.

Facing the No. 5-ranked player in the nation Sunday vs. No. 6-ranked Cal, Di Lorenzo claimed her match with a win in a second set tiebreaker, putting Ohio State up 2-1. Sneed and Di Lorenzo had the first doubles victory as Ohio State won the doubles point for the first time in the tournament.

Di Lorenzo is 15-2 overall and 6-1 in dual matches, winning her last five. She and Sneed are undefeated in doubles (7-0) this spring.

This weekend, the Buckeyes host two matches inside the Varsity Tennis Center. The squad will have a rematch with No. 1 Vanderbilt at noon Saturday and host No. 24 Georgia Tech at noon Sunday. Admission to all Buckeye regular season home matches is free.
