Columbus, Ohio – Nick Demaline has been named the Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced Wednesday afternoon. Demaline took silver in the invitational section of the shot put at last weekend’s Florida Relays.
Demaline, a native of Swanton, Ohio, edged 12 other throwers to earn the second-place finish. Entering the meet, Demaline had never thrown over 19 meters at an outdoor competition. Five of his six throws cleared the 19-meter barrier and his fourth throw of 19.62m (64-4.50) was the best of his career.
The junior’s career-best mark is the fourth best in program history, third best in the NCAA and No. 1 in the Big Ten. Demaline will be competing in the shot put this weekend at the Tennessee Relays.
