COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men’s and women’s track and field teams started their 2006 home-opening meet Friday, playing host to the All-Ohio Championships in Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. Despite a lightning delay of nearly two hours, the Buckeyes stand in third on the men’s side with eight points and the women sit in fifth with 15.

Akron leads both standings with 48 points in the women’s side and 11 on the men’s. Storms postponed two events. The men’s 10,000-meter run was moved to Saturday, while the men’s hammer throw completed two flights, but was halted and will reset Saturday.

Keturah Lofton, the 2004 Big Ten champion in the hammer, won the same event Friday with a regional-qualifier of 198-1 (60.39m). Ashley Riehm also supplied points for the Buckeyes in the women’s hammer with a heave of 172-8 for seventh place.

Also in the field events, Kim Willet tied the Ohio State record to take sixth in the pole vault. She cleared 11-11.75 to equal the mark shared by former Buckeyes Becky Heintz and Robyn Mroz. Pat Filipi scored for Ohio State in the men’s javelin, placing second with a toss of 173-2.

In the multi-events, the Buckeye duo of Pat Woods and Scott Hudepohl stands second and third place. Woods claimed the top spot in the shot put with a throw of 39-8 1/2 and in the high jump at 6-2 3/4, while Hudepohl claimed runner-up in the long jump, reaching 22-0 1/4.
