%^$COLUMBUS, Ohio – For the first time in school history an Ohio State doubles team has reached the quarterfinals of the NCAA Doubles Championships. Wednesday afternoon Kristy Dascoli (Sr., Bradenton, Fla./Bradenton Academy) and Monica Rincon (Jr., Lapeer, Mich./West) wrote themselves into the OSU history books by upsetting the No. 7-ranked duo of Michelle Dasso and Becky Varnum from Notre Dame. It was the second upset of the tournament for the Buckeye tandem.%^$

The unranked Buckeyes dominated Dasso and Varnum, 6-0, 6-4 as they landed a berth in the quarterfinals. In doing so, OSU avenged an earlier 8-5 dual match loss to the pair from ND in Columbus on March 3. Dascoli and Rincon will face the No. 1-ranked tandem in Stanford’s Lauren Barnikow and Lauren Kalvaria in the quarterfinals Thursday.%^$

Yesterday, Dascoli and Rincon knocked off the No. 26 team of Clair Carter and Llona Kordonskaya of Washington, 6-3, 6-4, to advance to the round of 16.%^$

Last year Dascoli and Rincon defeated the No. 8-ranked team of Lucie Dvorakova and Daria Zoldakova of Texas Christian, 6-3, 6-2. They then fell in the second round to Stanford’s Laura Granville and Keiko Tokuda, 6-2, 6-3.
