COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State thrower Dan Taylor (Sr., Middlefield, Ohio/ Berkshire) placed first in his 11th and 12th throw competitions of the season at the 2004 Sykes/Sabock Challenge last weekend in State College, Pa. For his efforts, Taylor was named to his fourth Big Ten Athlete of the Week honor during the 2004 season Wednesday. Taylor shared the award this week with junior sprinter Ernie Terrell of Penn State, who topped the field at the Sykes/Sabock in both the 200 meters and 400 meters, while leading the Nittany Lions’ 4×400-meter relay squad to a first-place finish as well.

Taylor, who previously garnered the award in three consecutive weeks on Jan. 13, Jan. 20 and Jan. 27 after establishing an American collegiate record in the weight throw, helped Ohio State sweep the throw events at the Sykes/Sabock as he tossed a 74-4.25 (22.66 meters) in the weight, while scoring a distance of 65-2 (19.88m) in the shot put. Both efforts scored 10 first-place team points for the Buckeyes and served as automatic qualifiers to the 2004 NCAA Indoor Championships, held March 12-13 in Fayetteville, Ark.

Taylor’s weekly honor is his 11th combined during the last two indoor seasons and the 2003 outdoor campaign.

Ohio State closes out the regular season Saturday at home as the host of the Scarlet and Gray Invitational. The event is set to begin at 10 a.m. Live results for the meet may be viewed at www.deltatiming.com by selecting the Ohio State icon.
