Sept. 9, 2017
Columbus, Ohio – Your Ohio State University synchronized swimming team is hosting the 5th Annual Sync Cancer Swim-a-Thon at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion on Sunday, September 24 from 10:00am – Noon.
Come by and experience the festivities as the Buckeyes join together to complete a pelotonia (100 miles!) while we help raise money for cancer research. Hear inspiring stories, enjoy great food, and team up with your fellow students and surrounding community to make this the best year yet!
The Synchronized Swim team is a proud member of the Team Buckeye Peloton which collectively raises money to fund cancer research at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center- James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute. To date, the team has raised over $22,000 for cancer research, and we hope to add to the tradition this year.
So why a 100 miles?? A Pelotonia is a 100 mile bike race which Buckeye alum, Emily Marsh Fleming, proudly rode in for three years until she passed away in March of 2014. Doing what they do best, the swim team put aside their bikes and hopped in the pool. Through her courageous battle with breast cancer, Marsh Fleming inspired her teammates to begin the Swim-a-Thon as an opportunity to pay it forward and create an event to live on in support of the fight against cancer.
Five years later the event is still going strong, and the expectations for 2017 are even higher. Our goal is to register at least 100 participants who are encouraged to try to swim one mile. In order to participate in the swim, participants will be asked to make a minimum donation of $25. All participants are also challenged to raise additional pledges for their swim by registering as a virtual rider and joining the Team Buckeye-Sync Cancer sub peloton to further help the cause.
Feel free to cheer on the swimmers from the stands, simply donate to our cause, or jump in the pool with your National Champion synchronized swimming team and help us accomplish this amazing feat.
We hope to see you on Sunday, September 24 from 10:00am – noon. Come be a part of history!
