COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State freshman women’s swimmer Lindsey Clary has officially been named to the United States Junior National Team for the 2013-14 season. The full roster, announced recently by USA Swimming, is comprised of athletes with the top six fastest times, in Olympic events only, from the combined results of all USA Swimming or FINA sanctioned meets from Jan. 1, 2013 through Sept. 2, 2013.
A native of Riverside, Calif., Clary secured her place following a strong showing at the 2013 USA Open Water National Championship in the 10km race. After leading the race early, she finished in 11th overall with a time of 2:04.51.
“It’s nice to finally see my hard work paying off and to see my swimming career headed in the right direction,” Clary said. “I can’t wait to see what lies ahead of me in my next four years here at Ohio State.”
Clary is the second member of the US Junior National Team in as many years hailing from the Buckeye women’s swimming program. Last season, Annie Lazor, a rising sophomore from Beverly Hills, Mich., earned a roster spot during the 2012-13 year.
“Since arriving at Ohio State, my proudest moments have been assisting young people in reaching their goals at the national and international level,” said Ohio State head coach Bill Dorenkott. “Lindsey has come a long way in the past year and is destined for special things. You realize it the moment you meet her. We are proud of her and glad to call her a Buckeye.”
Clary and the rest of the Ohio State women’s swimming and diving team will kick off the 2013-14 season Oct. 11 in Lexington, Ky.
