COLUMBUS, Ohio – Lindsey Clary, a sophomore member of the Ohio State women’s swimming and diving team, was recently afforded the opportunity to lead the U.S. Junior National team as it contends at the 2014 Junior Pan Pacific Championships. Elected a team captain, Clary will bring her wealth of experience competing on the junior level to Team USA as it competes Aug. 27 – Aug. 31 in Maui, Hawaii.
Completing her rookie campaign at Ohio State last season, Clary swam in three events – 1650 freestyle, 400 individual medley and 500 freestyle – at the NCAA and Big Ten championships. A product of Riverside, Calif., Clary touched sixth at Big Tens in the 1650 freestyle with a personal- and team-best time of 16:17.14.
This summer marks the second consecutive in which Clary has competed on the national level – last May at the Open Water National Championships, she was named to the U.S. Junior National team. In June, Clary earned a spot on Team USA’s roster for Jr. Pan Pacs at the 2014 Open Water National Championships. At the meet, she finished 13th out of 47 competitors in only her second-ever open water race.
Update: Clary competed Sunday in the 10k open water event at Jr. Pan Pacs, swimming to a sixth-place finish in a time of 2:03:44.00.
