COLUMBUS, Ohio – Buckeye junior forward Danny Dries has been honored as the CCHA Offensive Player of the Week, the Central Collegiate Hockey Association announced Monday. Dries was named the Catamount Cup MVP after leading the Buckeyes to two wins and the tournament title in Burlington, Vt., over the weekend.
Dries, from Lake Orion, Mich., had four points, with three goals, en route to Catamount Cup MVP honors. He scored on the power play Saturday vs. Vermont to tie the game and added an empty-netter to seal the 3-1 win. Sunday against Army Dries opened the scoring and then assisted on Peter Boyd’s go-ahead goal soon after Army had tied the game, as the Buckeyes went on to win 5-3.
Dries now shares the team lead in goals (11) and points (19). He has two points in three of the last four contests and has 5-2-7 totals in the four games combined.
This is the second CCHA Offensive Player of the Week award for Dries, who also was honored Nov. 8. Ohio State has received six league weekly honors this season; Dries is the first multiple honoree.
The Buckeyes, 10-8-1 and on a four-game winning streak, return to CCHA action this weekend with a home series against No. 7/8 Miami in Value City Arena. The teams will meet at 7:35 p.m. Friday in a game televised live on CBS College Sports and at 7:05 p.m. Saturday.
