COLUMBUS, Ohio ­- Team Canada opened in first place of the 17th Women’s World Amateur Championship with a score of 137 (-7) Wednesday in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico. Ohio State senior golfer Lindsay Knowlton (Toronto, Ontario/Havergal) is a member of the three-person team. Knowlton recorded a round of 73 (+1) in the first round on the par 72 River Course at Rio Mar Country Club (5,956 yards). She currently is tied for 19th place on the individual leaderboard.

Canada leads the field of 51 nations contesting for the Espirto Santo Trophy. The United States follows in second place with a mark of 139 (-5) and Korea stands in third with a score of 142 (-2). Knowlton’s teammate, Mary Ann Lapointe leads all individuals after an opening round of 67 (-5).
