COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Big Ten Conference recognized a pair of Ohio State women’s volleyball players on Monday (Oct. 6) for their efforts over the weekend in guiding OSU to road wins at Iowa and No. 8 Nebraska. Elizabeth Campbell was tabbed the Big Ten Player of the Week while Taylor Sherwin collected her third career Big Ten Setter of the Week honor.
Campbell performed on both sides of the net, averaging 4.38 kills and 3.62 digs per set while swinging at a .308 clip; all team highs. Her 40 points responsible for were also a team best, averaging five points per set for the weekend. The junior transfer from Duke opened the weekend by connecting on a dozen kills and narrowly missing out on the double-double with nine digs in a three-set sweep over the Hawkeyes. She added two service aces and a block assist as well, good for 14.5 points while attacking at a .346 rate (12-3-26). The Buckeyes followed the sweep up with a five-set victory in front of 8,000+ fans in Lincoln. Campbell racked up 23 kills and 20 digs with a .288 attack percentage to carry OSU past No. 8 Nebraska. She got in on three blocks to go along with a service ace. Campbell’s 23 kills are the most by any opponent against the Huskers this season.
Campbell is the first Buckeye to earn B1G Player of the Week laurels since Kaitlyn Leary did so on Sept. 9, 2013.
Sherwin tallied 95 assists (11.88/set) over the weekend, evenly distributing the ball to four different OSU attackers with 17 or more kills. She did more than just assist, however, providing 2.75 digs per set, including 19 in Lincoln. Sherwin’s fourth double-double of the season was clinched by intermission after accumulating 14 digs in the first two sets alone versus the Huskers. Sherwin quarterbacked the Buckeyes to a .232 attack percentage vs. Nebraska, over 30 percentage points higher than the Huskers.
Sherwin garnered B1G Setter of the Week accolades twice in 2013 (Sept. 2, Sept. 16) and has four weekly conference awards overall to her credit (Freshman of the Week on Sept. 19, 2011).
Campbell, Sherwin and the rest of the Buckeyes play host to No. 15 Illinois Wednesday night in St. John Arena. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
