COLUMBUS, Ohio – Behind a first-place finish with a 90.625 in the solo event by freshman Yuliya Maryanko, the Ohio State synchronized swimming team is seeking its 27th U.S. Collegiate title and third consecutive. Maryanko, who hails from Kharhov, Ukraine, outdistanced her nearest opponent by .625 points in semifinal action Thursday at the Town of Tonawanda Aquatic and Fitness Center in Buffalo, N.Y.
After her impressive solo routine, Maryanko teamed with senior Michelle Theriault to finish second in the duet with a score of 91.375. Maryanko and Theriault were .500 points behind semifinal leaders Maria Koroleva and Olivia Morgan of Stanford. 
The Buckeyes posted third and fourth-place finishes in the trio semifinals. Alex Beckett, Deborah Shim and Theriault scored an 89.000, while the trio of Lauren Nicholson, Paige Ramsey and Lauren Robinson were awarded an 88.375. 
Competition at the 35th Annual U.S. Collegiate Synchronized Swimming Championships will resume at 8 a.m. Friday with technical and figures judging. The team routine semifinal will get underway at 3:35 p.m.
