COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State synchronized swimming team opened up its season with a 96-39.5 victory over Michigan in the OSU Tri-Meet contested Saturday and Sunday at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion. 

Freshman Yuliya Maryanko made her debut in the Scarlet and Gray by winning the solo competition earning a score of 93.160. Fellow freshman Lauren Nicholson placed second with an 89.50. Raquel Aguado (88.330) and Colleen Courtmanche (82.160) were third and fourth respectively as honorary competitors.

Showcasing all-new duets, senior-freshman duo Michelle Theriault and Maryanko placed first with a score of 91.0. In second-place were teammates Chelsea Aton and Courtmanche with an 87.660. Honorary duo Kayley Colville and Jenny Mann took third with Michigan’s Joanna Solarwics and Callie Zahul in fourth and Jessica Hartman and Emily Biester in fifth.

Lauren Robinson, Nicholson, and Paige Ramsey won the trio for the Buckeyes earning a score of 92.50. Theriault, Java Nikbakht and Alex Beckett followed in second with a score of 91.50. For the Wolverines, Lindsey Bander, Sachi Gianchandani and Ashlyn Gurley took third with a 67.170.

Up next, Ohio State will host the fifth-annual Jessica Beck Memorial Meet at McCorkle at 2 p.m. Feb. 5.
