COLUMBUS, Ohio — Four Buckeye athletes earned victories for the Ohio State track and field team on the opening day of the 31st Jesse Owens Track & Field Classic Friday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.

The Scarlet and Gray opened the annual JO weekend with back-to-back wins in the javelin. Senior Allie Missler claimed the women’s title with a season-best throw of 46.20 meters (151-7.00), while junior Bill Stanley cleared 68.57 meters (225-0.00) to capture the men’s championship.

Senior J.C. Murasky remained unbeaten on the year in the men’s shot put, claiming first place in his signature event with a throw of 19.53 meters (64-1.00).

On the track, sophomore Evan Stifel raced to a personal-best time of 14:32.59 to win the men’s 5000-meter run.

Other highlights:
• Senior Sakiko Minagawa used a personal-best time of 16:42.49 to earn runner-up honors in the women’s 5000-meter run.
• Senior Tammy Berger moved to No. 2 in the OSU record book in the women’s 1500-meter run with a fifth-place time of 4:23.34.

Field events resume tomorrow at 10 a.m. ET, followed by races on the track at noon.
