MADISON, Wis. (AP) – Michael Redd scored seven of his season-high 30 points in overtime and Ohio State defeated No. 19 Wisconsin 78-74 Saturday night.

Redd, who sent the game into overtime with a short jumper with 16 seconds left in regulation, scored the first three points in overtime to give the Buckeyes a 71-68 lead.

Wisconsin came back with six straight points, including four by Sean Mason, to go ahead 74-71. But Redd hit two free throws and Brian Brown made a 3-pointer with just under a minute left to put Ohio State in front 76-74.

After Mason missed a 3-point attempt, Redd made two free throws with 11 seconds left to put the game out of reach.

Scoonie Penn added 18 points for Ohio State (12-3, 2-0 Big Ten).

Mason scored 22 points to lead Wisconsin (12-3, 0-2), while Ty Calderwood added 15.

Mason, who had been held without a field goal in the second half, hit a 10-footer with 1:27 remaining to put Wisconsin ahead 66-64.

George Reese hit two free throws with 34 seconds left for Ohio State to tie the score 66-66.

Mike Kelley put Wisconsin ahead with two free throws before Redd hit his game-tying shot from the lane.

Wisconsin led 50-44 midway through the second half before Ohio State went on an 11-0 run to take a 55-50 lead. The Buckeyes hit three straight 3-pointers in the run, two by Boban Savovic and one by Penn.

The Badgers trailed most of the first half until going on a 14-2 run late in the half to take a 33-24 lead. Mason scored five of his 10 first-half points during the run.

Redd, the Buckeyes’ leading scorer with a 19.4 average, was held scoreless for more than 12 minutes. He got untracked and scored Ohio State’s last 12 points of the half, including a basket and two free throws in the last minute to cut the halftime deficit to 33-29.

Redd extended his streak to 17 points by scoring the Buckeyes’ first five points of the second half.
