COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio State University women’s basketball team cruised to a 110-80 victory over the Ashland Eagles in an exhibition game at Value City Arena on Sunday afternoon. Ashland struck first with a Jodi Johnson layup. From there, the Buckeyes used a 7-2 run fueled by five points from Kelsey Mitchell to take control of the game. A Julie Worley layup slowed the run, and the Eagles got as close within two, 11-9, with 6:00 left in the first quarter. That, however, is as close as Ashland would get. An 8-0 Ohio State run put the Buckeyes in front for good, eventually winning 108-76.
Five Buckeyes scored in double digits, led by Stephanie Mavunga’s 28 points. Mavunga also had a team high 23 rebounds, and dished out four assists. Mitchell finished with 28 points as well, while tallying five assists and three rebounds on the day. Linnae Harper finished with a double-double, dropping 17 points and pulling down 14 rebounds. Finally, Asia Doss notched 16 points, while Sierra Calhoun finished with 15 points.
Laina Snyder led the way for the defending Division-II champion Eagles, scoring 21 points while snagging nine rebounds. Worley finished second in scoring for Ashland with 16 points.
Next up for the Buckeyes is another exhibition game, this time against Urbana. Tip-off is set for 1:00 p.m. Sunday, November 5.
