COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men’s golf team ended the second round of the NCAA Men’s Golf Championship Wednesday tied for eighth after a team score of 299 (+11). The Buckeyes has two-day score of 590 (+14) on the par 72, 7,407-yard Karsten Creek golf course in Stillwater, Okla.

The NCAA Championship consists of three days of stroke play followed by three days of match play. The top eight teams in the 30-team field advance to the match play portion with the winner of each match advancing and the loser being eliminated.

Georgia Tech will head into the third day with the lead at 573 (-3) followed closely by UCLA in second at 574 (-2). LSU’s John Peterson holds the individual lead after shooting a low round of 7-under 65 to catapult 46 spots into first.

Brad Smith had the low round of the day for Ohio State, posting a 2-over 74. Starting on the back-nine, the senor nailed three birdies before a difficult stretch on the front-nine brought him to 2-over par on the day. Smith’s two-round total of 146 (+2) was good for a 28th-place tie with teammate Bo Hoag. Like Smith, Hoag endured a roller coaster stretch towards the end of the round to finish with a 3-over 75.

Senior Michael Cress and junior Alex Redfield have had identical tournaments thus far, both following opening-round 74s with a 3-over 75. The duo will march into the final day in a tie for 53rd. Junior Dan Charen rounded out the Ohio State effort, firing an 82 to finish in 152nd place.

Ohio State will be back in action for the final day of stroke play Thursday with tee times beginning at 1:30 p.m. ET.
