COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio State men’s golf team is tied for the No. 6 spot after 18 holes at the Landfall Tradition in Wilmington, N.C. The first day of the tournament was played Friday at the Country Club of Landfall Jack Nicklaus Course (par 72, 6,992).

Ohio State freshman Dan Rush (Cleveland, Ohio/St. Ignatius) is tied for fifth to lead Ohio State. He shot an even-par 72 Friday. Classmate Brandon Markiw (Edmonton, Canada/McNally Composite) is tied for the No. 16 spot with a 74 (+2) after the first day of competition.

Tulsa shot a 1-over-par 289 and to grab the first-round lead. Individually, Minnesota’s Niall Turner carded a 5-under-par 67 to move to the top of the leaderboard. The second day of the 54-hole event, hosted by UNC Wilmington, gets under way at 8:17 a.m. Saturday.

An overnight rain and cool temperatures briefly delayed the start of the fourth annual event. Tailing Tulsa in the men’s standings are Texas A&M (294), Coastal Carolina (295), Minnesota (296), VCU (297), Ohio State (299), Illinois (299), UNC Wilmington (300), Michigan State (300), Virginia Tech (302), Purdue (305) and Memphis (310).

Junior Sam Korbe of Tulsa became the first player in the history of the tournament to record a hole-in-one. The Springdale, Ark., native used a six iron to ace the Par 3, 191-yard sixth hole en route to his first career hole-in-one.

Turner, meanwhile, owns a two-stroke lead over A&M’s Jerad Harklau (69) in the individual standings.
