COLUMBUS, Ohio — The third-ranked Ohio State women’s rowing team hosted No. 16 Syracuse and Michigan State in the team’s final regular-season finale Saturday afternoon at Griggs Reservoir on the Scioto River.

The Buckeyes competed in six races against the Orange and Spartans, winning each of the four varsity contests with season-best times.

Ohio State’s Second Varsity Eight made its season-debut in the first race of the day, falling to Michigan State. OSU crossed the line with a time of 7:18.6.

The First Novice Eight race saw Syracuse enter the fray and score a winning time of 6:42.0, seven seconds ahead of the Spartans (6:48.9) and 10 seconds faster than the Buckeyes, who finished in a season-best time of 6:52.6.

The rest of the regatta was dominated by the Buckeyes, beginning with the combined Second/Third Varsity Four contest. Ohio State’s 2V4 scored a first-place time of 6:58.1, besting the 3V4 squad (7:07.4) by almost 10 seconds. Syracuse finished just behind the Buckeye 3V4, with Michigan State finishing more than 40 seconds behind.

In the First Varsity Four race, Ohio State bested Syracuse by eight seconds, sounding the horn in a  time of 7:07.9.

Ohio State posted impressive times in the Varsity Eight races for the second week in a row. The Buckeye 2V8 won its fifth race in a row with a time of 6:18.5, 13 seconds faster than Syracuse. The First Varsity Eight was tested by the Orange but emerged victorious by six seconds in a time of 6:11.5, extending its unbeaten streak to nine races.
