COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men’s track and field team has landed its second-consecutive Top 10 recruiting class according to Track and Field News.
After bringing in the second-ranked class in NCAA a year ago, head coach Ed Beathea and his staff’s recruiting efforts this year have them checking in at No. 6 in the latest issue of Track and Field News. The class, which is only the second for Beathea since taking over full-time head coach duties, also marks the second year in a row that the Buckeyes have had the top-ranked class in the Big Ten.
“We are very excited to hear about our Top 10 ranking of our recruiting class,” Beathea said. “I appreciate the efforts of my staff. We have restructured the way we recruit and clearly it is paying off for the program. This honor is a direct results of a lot of hard work by our entire team. All of the signees will represent the university and program very well.”
Headlining this year’s recruiting haul are 2013 Track and Field News High School All-Americans Lamar Bruton, Dylan Dyke and Aaron Zedella. Accomplished discus thrower Dakota Vogt also looks to contribute early on in his collegiate career.
Bruton is a 13-time Delaware state champion competing in multiple sprinting events and is the Delaware state record holder in the 400m. Dyke is a multiple-time state champion in Ohio competing in the shot put and weight throw events while Zedella also has Ohio state championships to his name in shot put as well as discus. Vogt had a runner up and a third place finish at the Ohio state championships during his high school career.
The distance squad brings in a wealth of talent in Italian distance runner Alex Rampelotto, mid-distance runners Anthony Johnson and Dominik Seitzer, as well as a graduate student transfer in Andy Arnold.
Rampelotto has a personal best 1500m time of 3:52.70 and experience on the Italian National Team, Johnson and Seitzer finished 1-2 at the 2013 OHSAA DI state championship in the 800m and Arnold adds experience to a young distance squad after transferring to Ohio State from Cornell.
Ohio State opens up its indoor season Jan. 10, 2014 with the Buckeye Classic inside French Field House.
