COLUMBUS, Ohio Steven Williams signed an NCAA National Letter of Intent to attend Ohio State and play tennis for the Buckeyes beginning in 2008-09, Ty Tucker, Ohio State head coach announced.

“We feel Steven is a hard worker who will develop into quite a college player,” Tucker said. “Even though he has been ranked in the Top 30 in the United States, we know he is better than that because of his work ethic and competitive nature. Steven will be a great Buckeye.”

A native of Manlius, N.Y., Williams has peaked at No. 34 in the nation in the Under-18 rankings this year. This past fall, he won the doubles crown at the National Labor Day Championships in Glen Cove, N.Y., and was runner-up in the singles bracket. Williams finished third in the singles event in 2006.

Williams also was a finalist in the 2007 National Open in Cincinnati, Ohio, and advanced to the semifinals of the 2007 Florida Open Championships in Fort Myers, Fla.

In the 2006 Under-16 standings, Williams was ranked No. 1 in the Eastern Section polls and achieved a national ranking as high as 28th.
