Buckeyes at the carmel cup

  • This is the second-straight season the Buckeyes will open the year at the Carmel Cup at one of the best golf courses in the world, Pebble Beach Golf Links.
  • Will Grimmer led the Buckeyes in the first appearance in the tournament last year, finishing tied for 14th after rounds of 74-68-69.
  • Caden Orewiler finished tied for 27th at even par which included a 3-under par 69 in the opening round
  • As a team, the Buckeyes finished in eighth place in the unique play six, count five event.

Noting the buckeyes

  • The Buckeyes return the four lowest scoring averages from last season led by All-Big Ten honoree Will Grimmer. The Cincinnati, Ohio native averaged 71.97 and recorded six top-10s.
  • Daniel Wetterich was No. 2 in scoring average behind Grimmer and like his teammate, earned All-Midwest Region honors. The two combined to be the team’s low-scorer in 10 of the 12 events.
  • Last season, Ohio State had its best finish at the Big Ten Championships since 2004 with a third place showing. That was buoyed by three top-20 performances from Grimmer (2nd), Wetterich (19th) and Caleb Ramirez (14th).
  • Will Voetsch, who played at Rice the last two seasons and was named to the Conference USA All-Freshman Team in 2016, will make his Buckeye debut in the first event of the season.
