COLUMBUS, Ohio – For the 25th straight time, Ohio State has taken an NCAA victory on their home turf. On a beautiful day at the OSU Varsity Tennis Courts, the Buckeyes were all business as they took down the ETSU Buccaneers without dropping a set.
The Scarlet and Gray continued their recent success in doubles. With some rips down the line by Torpegaard and Wolf, courts 2 and 3 soon earned a couples breaks of serve. With a 6-2 win by Mikael Torpegaard and John McNally, and a 6-4 clinch by Martin Joyce and JJ Wolf, the Buckeyes found themselves up 1-0.
Singles was also dominated by the Buckeyes, as no ETSU player took more than four games in a set. First off the court was Kyle Seelig with a 6-1, 6-2 win. JJ Wolf followed up with a 6-3, 6-1 win. Clinching as he has throughout his career was senior Mikael Torpegaard, with a 6-4, 6-3 win. In all of the remaining matches, the Buckeyes were up one set and at least one break.
The Scarlet and Gray will have their last home match of the season tomorrow, where they will battle it out against No. 26 Kentucky. The winner will move on to the third round of the NCAAs. From there on out, matches will take place at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex in Winstom Salem, North Carolina from May 18-28.
