Buckeyes Remain Home for the NCAA Columbus Regional

COLUMBUS, Ohio – For the 23rd time in as many seasons, the Ohio State women’s golf has qualified for the NCAA postseason. This season is special though as the Scarlet Course hosts the 2017 NCAA Columbus Regional (May 8-10). In 25 years as head coach, Therese Hession has guided the Buckeyes to the NCAA Regionals 24 times.

Eighteen teams and six individuals have congregated in Ohio’s capital city for a shot at advancing to the NCAA Championships (May 19-24) at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Ill. The top six teams and best three individuals from non-advancing squads will move on and continue the quest for a 2017 national championship.

A total of 384 participants have been selected for regional competition. Of these players, 132 will advance to the NCAA Championships finals. Live coverage from the finals will be provided by the Golf Channel.

Ohio State is paired with Michigan and Purdue in an All-Big Ten grouping for the opening round.

BUCKEYE TRIO EARNS ALL-BIG TEN STATUS FOR 2016-17
Jaclyn Lee, Katja Pogacar and Jessica Porvasnik were each voted to the All-Big Ten Second Team. In addition, Rio Watanabe was presented the Big Ten Sportsmanship award.

Pogacar and Porvasnik have been named to the All-B1G squad in all four seasons of their careers. Pogacar earned First Team honors in 2015 and 2016 while Porvasnik did so in 2014 and 2016. The pair becomes the second and third Buckeyes in school history to corral all-conference laurels four times (Kristen White was a First Team member from 2002-05).

WEATHER FORECAST
Temperatures are expected to rise as the competition days roll by, starting with a chilly high of 59 degrees on Monday before temps potentially reaching the 70s for Wednesday’s final round. Evening showers are not forecast to wreak havoc during play.

NATIONAL RANKINGS
Ohio State comes in at No. 29 in this week’s Golfstat national rankings. Four Buckeye individuals can be found in the Golfweek Top-200, including Jessica Porvasnik slotted No. 89 in the entire country. Jaclyn Lee (No. 95), Katja Pogacar (No. 124) and Rio Watanabe (No. 186) are also nationally ranked inside the Top-200.
