COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men’s volleyball will enter the 2014 season as the 12th-ranked squad in the AVCA Division I-II Men’s Coaches Top 15 preseason poll, the AVCA announced Wednesday. Ohio State is one of three MIVA schools ranked in the poll as Loyola-Chicago is seventh and Lewis is 10th.
The Buckeyes return three starters from last year’s team that finished 19-8 overall. Guiding the squad will be a trio of juniors in outside hitter Michael Henchy, opposite Andrew Lutz and setter Peter Heinen. Henchy was named to the All-MIVA first team, while Lutz picked up second team accolades. Lutz finished in the top 20 nationally with a 3.49 kills average in his first season of competition last year.
Ohio State opens the 2014 campaign at the Outrigger Hotels Volleyball Invitational in Honolulu, Hawai’i, Jan. 9-11. The Buckeyes will face host and No. 13 Hawai’i, No. 2 UCLA and No. 9 Penn State during the tournament. Ohio State kicks off its home slate, Jan. 17, hosting Lees-McRae in St. John Arena.
