Columbus, Ohio – Members of the Ohio State women’s volleyball team assisted in the Spring Ice Cream Social last Saturday at the Arlington Court Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. The athletes helped out by serving a variety of ice cream and topping to the patients, helped with manicures and served snacks while visiting with the patients.
“It was so much fun talking to people at the nursing home,” said senior outside hitter Anna Szerszen. “They told us stories about the Great Depression and World War II. It was incredible to hear their stories.”
This was the squad’s second trip to the Center. It is recognized as the Best Nursing Home in Columbus by the U.S. Local Business Association.
“Visiting the nursing home was quite the experience for all of us” said middle hitter Kelli Barhorst. “The people there shared their life experiences with us and those experiences have showed us we should never give up on our dreams.”
The Ohio State women’s volleyball team will open the 2010 season at 7 p.m., Aug. 27 when they host Virginia Commonwealth in the Sports Imports Classic.
