COLUMBUS, Ohio – Thad Mattaand the entire Ohio State men’s basketball team took to the court Thursday to preview the 2011-12 college basketball season. Official practice sessions begin at 5 p.m. Friday.

Matta, now in his eighth season as head coach of the Buckeyes, will conduct practice with a pair of returning starters and two reserves who helped lead Ohio State to an outright Big Ten title, an appearance in the NCAA “Sweet 16” and an overall record of 34-3 a season ago.

Senior William Buford along with sophomore Jared Sullinger are back from the starting lineup last year. Aaron Craft, the Big Ten’s sixth man of the year as a rookie, and classmate Deshaun Thomasalso return.

The Buckeyes welcome four freshmen to the fold as well, including McDonald’s All-Americans Shannon Scott and Amir Williams.

The entire 2011-12 roster is made up of just one upperclassman (Buford) who has played in an Ohio State uniform. Junior Evan Ravenelis eligible to play after sitting out last year following a transfer from Boston College.

A total of 10 freshmen (4) and sophomores (6) make up the Ohio State roster heading into the start of practice.

The Buckeyes open the season with an exhibition game at 2 p.m. Nov. 6 at Value City Arena vs. Walsh University. The season officially opens Nov. 11 in the season and home opener vs. Wright State (9 p.m.).
