COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s tennis team posted a 5-2 win over Wisconsin Sunday in Madison, Wis. No. 30 Ohio State, now 10-6 on the year and 4-3 in Big Ten play, won the doubles point and added four singles victories for the conference win over the Badgers (8-11, 2-5 B1G). Anna Sanfordand Danielle Wolf both won in singles and doubles for the Buckeyes.

“I am really proud of our effort today. We fought back in the doubles point after being down 5-2. This group has had some tough 4-3 losses but we can learn from them and get better and I think that happened today. There were some pressure moments for sure and we handled them well for the most part. We need a good week of practice at home to get ready for next weekend.”
The Buckeyes and Badgers split the first two doubles matches. On court three, the Buckeye tandem of Maria Tyrina and Danielle Wolf posted a 6-2 victory over Michelle Linden and Sara Castellano. The Badgers won the next match, with MaryAnn Rompf and Melissa Pick defeating Ohio State’s Olivia Sneedand Mary Beth Hurley, 6-3, on court two.
On court one, the Buckeyes’ No. 25-ranked tandem of Anna Sanford and Shiori Fukuda rallied for a win against Kelsey Grambeau and Lexi Keberle. The Ohio State duo was down 5-2 but won the next four games for a 6-5 lead. Ohio State was broken serving for the match, sending it to a tiebreaker. Sanford and Fukuda claimed the match with a 7-5 win in the tiebreaker, clinching the victory on a Sanford backhand.
Ohio State has won the doubles point in 13 of 16 matches this season. The duo of Sanford and Fukuda is 11-1 in dual matches.
The Buckeyes posted the first two singles wins for a 3-0 lead. On court three, Sneed did not drop a game as she defeated Rompf, 6-0, 6-0. Sanford, ranked 62nd, followed with a 6-3, 6-4 victory against Keberle on court one. She is a team-best 12-3 this spring.
Wisconsin won the next two singles matches for a 3-2 match. On court four Tyrina lost to Pick, 6-2, 6-4, and on court two No. 97-ranked Fukuda fell to Castellano, 7-6, 6-2.
The Buckeyes clinched the team victory with wins on courts five and six. Wolf secured the Buckeye win, topping Grambeau, 7-6, 6-3, on court five and Hurley was a 6-1, 7-6 winner over Linden on court six.
The Buckeyes have two road matches next weekend, taking on Indiana at 4 p.m. ET Friday in Bloomington, Ind., and Purdue at noon ET Sunday in West Lafayette, Ind.
The regular season closes with home matches against Illinois at 4 p.m. April 20 and Northwestern at noon April 22.
