SUNSET, S.C. – The Ohio State women’s golf team finished fifth at the Clemson Invitational at even-par after a final-round 298 Sunday at The Reserve at Lake Keowee. Furman won the 15-team event at 30-under par followed by Michigan State at 20-under, Clemson at 18-under and Vanderbilt at 2-under while the Buckeyes rounded out the Top 5.
The tournament marked the Buckeyes’ third-consecutive Top 5 team finish and fourth of the season.
Junior Niki Schroeder led the Buckeyes at 4-under to tie for 12th, her best finish since placing 11th at Big Ten Championships last April. A native of Avon Lake, Ohio, Schroeder followed up an opening-round 69 Friday before a 1-under 71 Saturday and an even-par 72 in the final round Sunday. Sophomore Adeena Shears finished right behind her in a tie for 15th at 3-under, matching Schroeder in the final two rounds after an opening-round 70. The tournament marked Shears’ third Top 25 finish of the season.
Junior Jaclyn Lee tied for 39th at 4-over while senior Rio Watanabe tied for 44th a shot back at 5-over. Freshman Sofia Seldemirova, playing the tournament as an individual, tied for 67th at 17-over and sophomore Alex Wright tied for 72nd at 20-over.
As a team, Ohio State finished fifth in Par-3 scoring at 4-over while tallying the most pars of any team in the field with 186.
Individually, Schroeder tied for seventh in Par-5 scoring at 3-under while Watanabe tied for fifth with 41 pars and was one of just five players with an eagle in the tournament.
