STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) – Brent Darby scored 27 points and Sean Connolly had 13 as Ohio State beat Penn State 76-67 Wednesday night.
The Buckeyes (12-10, 5-6 Big Ten) went on a 9-2 run to finish the first half and a 13-7 run to start the second to take their biggest lead, 52-38, with 14:19 left.
Penn State (5-15, 0-9) cut the lead to eight points with 10:41 left on an Aaron Johnson foul shot, but Ohio State then went on a 12-7 run to take a 70-57 lead with 6:01 left in the game.
After Jan Jagla’s layup with 7:27 left, Penn State went more than 5 minutes without scoring until Brandon Watkins hit a layup with 1:39 left.
Ohio State’s Zach Williams finished with 12 points and Shun Jenkins had 17 rebounds as they filled in for Velimir Radinovic, who was in foul trouble all game. Radinovic only played 7 minutes, but Ohio State still outrebounded Penn State 48-29.
DeForrest Riley led the Nittany Lions with 14 points, Watkins had 13 and Sharif Chambliss finished with 12.
Darby was 11-for-11 from the free throw line, hitting all of Ohio State’s free throws, and finished with 7 assists. Penn State, the only Big Ten team without a win, is off to its worst start since joining the conference in 1992-93.
