Buckeyes Open 2018 Play at Michigan Invitational

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 13-ranked Ohio State women’s tennis team will hit the courts for the first time in 2018 at the Michigan Invitational this weekend, which runs Saturday through Monday in Ann Arbor. Junior Andrea Ballinger, redshirt sophomore Danielle Wolf and freshman Emma DeCoste will represent the Buckeyes in the hidden dual tournament. There is no team scoring in the event.

The Buckeyes are joined in the tournament by No. 10-ranked and host Michigan, No. 7 Georgia Tech, No. 8 Texas Tech and No. 24 Arizona State. Ohio State’s players will team up with Arizona State in singles and doubles throughout the weekend.

In the tournament, each team will play three rounds of doubles and three rounds of singles, with up to eight flights in singles and four flights in doubles per round. Each team playing one round of singles and one of doubles per day.

Points will be allotted for each win based on decreasing point value to determine a champion in singles and doubles at the end of the weekend.

Monday, Jan. 15
8:30 a.m. Singles — Arizona State/Ohio State vs. Georgia Tech
11:30 a.m. Doubles — Michigan vs. Arizona State/Ohio State, Georgia Tech vs. Texas Tech

Looking Ahead
Next week, the Buckeyes will hit the courts Jan. 19-21 at the Miami Fall Invite in Miami, Fla., in another hidden dual style tournament

The first team matches for the Buckeyes will be in Columbus Jan. 26-27 when Ohio State hosts ITA Kickoff Weekend matches. The Buckeyes will face Kansas in the first round, with Arkansas taking on Wake Forest. The winners and losers will meet on day two, with the site winner advancing to the ITA National Team Indoor Championship in Madison, Wis. Admission is free to all matches, which will be held in the Varsity Tennis Center.
