MESA, Ariz. – The Ohio State women’s golf team posted a 2-under 286 to lead after 18 holes of the Clover Cup Friday at Longbow Golf Club. Junior Niki Schroeder is the individual leader after a career-low 5-under 67 which included six-consecutive birdies.
After the opening round, the Buckeyes sit one stroke ahead of Arizona State, five ahead of Oklahoma and seven up on fourth-place Kentucky.
Junior Jaclyn Lee sits in a tie for ninth after an even-par 72, her fourth-straight round at or below-par. Sophomore Adeena Shears is right behind Lee in a tie for 13th at 1-over par while fellow sophomore Alex Wright is tied for 21st at 2-over.
Senior Rio Watanabe sits tied for 53rd at 6-over after 18 holes while freshman Alanis Sakuma, representing Ohio State as an individual, is tied for 85th at 16-over.
The Buckeyes made the third-most birdies (14) and the third-most pars (57) of any team in the 16-team field. Ohio State’s 3-over tally on Par-4’s tied for the best of the opening round.
Individually, Schroeder was the best on the Par-4’s at 4-under while Wright tied for second at 1-under. Watanabe used an eagle on her way to a 3-under score on the Par-5’s while Schroeder tied for second with six eagles on the day.
