Buckeyes get ugly win

Columbus Dispatch: The beauty of youth showed last night for OhioState in Value City Arena with a shrug and a sigh. Sophomore Jantel Lavender scored the 1,000th point of her career in the first half of a major Big Ten encounter with Purdue and greeted the event without a hoot or a holler. Freshman point guard Samantha Prahalis, meanwhile, ended on 0-of-8 start from three-point land with something beyond a major make late in the second half and put the moment in perfect perspective.

Lucas will be in town to see his jersey retired

Journal-News: Fifty-one years after Jerry Lucas the greatest high school basketball player in Middletown history, if not the state, or country took off his basketball uniform, his number is being retired. No one has worn Lucas’ No. 13 jersey his coach, Paul Walker, refused to issue it since he graduated from MiddletownHigh School in 1958. But, his jersey never was “officially” retired. Until now. Consider that nine years ago, Ohio State, which Lucas led the Buckeyes to a 1960 NCAA championship, retired his No. 11 jersey, and in 1980, Lucas was elected into the Basketball Hall of Fame.

New basketball coach brings lots of intensity to Athens

The Columbus Dispatch: OhioState fans would recognize many parts of this basketball drama. An assistant coach scribbles instructions on a grease-board and flashes it for OhioUniversity players to see. The coaching staff huddles for a brief strategy session before talking to the players at every timeout. The head coach hurriedly paces the sideline like a man late to his own wedding.
