Setting the Scene
• The No. 14-ranked Ohio State men’s hockey team (5-1-3, 0-0-0-0 B1G) hosts UConn (3-2-4, 1-1-1 HEA) in a two-game series in Value City Arena this weekend. The teams will meet at 7 p.m. Friday and 4 p.m. Saturday.
• Both games will be streamed online through the Buckeye Vision subscription package on OhioStateBuckeyes.com.
• The radio call will be on 1460 AM in Columbus and online through Buckeye Vision.

Military and Veteran Appreciation, Other Promotions
• This weekend marks the Military and Veteran Appreciation series and the games will include special tributes to those that serve and have served our country. The games will feature color guards, puck drops by student veterans, special recognitions and video shout-outs.
• The Buckeyes will be wearing camouflage jerseys during the games vs. UConn which will be auctioned, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting United Heroes League (formerly Defending the Blue Line). Details on the jersey auction are coming soon.
• Friday, youth eighth grade and under are invited to ice level to take a shot on the Buckeye net after the game.
• Postgame Saturday, there will be a meet and greet on the concourse level with select Buckeyes.
• A family ticket pack, which includes discount tickets and a $5 concession credit, is available for Saturday’s game. The tickets, available for groups of four or more, must be purchased online: go.osu.edu/MIHFamilyPack.

Buckeye Notes to Know
• The Buckeyes have had balanced scoring throughout the lineup – 11 Buckeyes have at least one goal and 22 have at least one assist and point. All but one Buckeye who has played in more than one game has gotten on the scoresheet this year. There are four Buckeyes with 10 or more points and 11 with five or more. Buckeyes make up four of the top eight scorers in the Big Ten.
• Ohio State is third in the NCAA in scoring offense, averaging 4.44 goals per game. The team has scored four or more goals in five of the last six games.
• The series this weekend marks the only two-game home series for the Buckeyes in the first half of the season. After this weekend, the team will next play in Columbus Dec. 31 vs. Miami. Seven of the Buckeyes’ first nine games were away from Columbus
• Senior Nick Schilkey enters the UConn series with 99 career points, on 50 goals and 49 assists. He is third on the squad with 10 points this season and is tied for the Big Ten lead with eight goals.
• Freshman Tanner Laczynski leads the Buckeyes and is second in the Big Ten overall and among rookies with 12 points. Among NCAA rookies, Laczynski is fourth with 1.33 points per game.
• Ohio State is 5-1-3 on the year, with its first loss last Friday vs. Robert Morris. The 5-0-2 mark was the best start to a season for an Ohio State squad since the 1983-84 team began its year with 13 consecutive wins. The Buckeyes closed last season with a 6-1-2 mark, giving the squad an 11-2-5 ledger in its last 18 games combined. Twenty letterwinners returned from last year’s team.

Just the Stats
• Ohio State is averaging 4.44 goals a game this season and allowing 2.78 per outing.
• The Buckeye power play is 15th nationally, converting 20.9 percent (9-for-43), while the penalty kill is 30-for-40 (.750). Ohio State averages 11.8 penalty minutes a game.
Tanner Laczynski has a team-high 12 points and shares the team assist lead with Josh Healey and Dakota Joshua with nine each. Nick Schilkey is first with eight goals, followed by John Wiitala with six and Matthew Weis with five. Weis is second on the team with 11 points, followed by Schilkey and Joshua with 10 each.
• In goal, Matt Tomkins has started seven games, playing in eight, and has a 2.64 goals-against average and .900 save percentage. Christian Frey started the first two before suffering an injury and has a 3.01 goals-against average and .906 save percentage. Logan Davis has two appearances and has stopped all six shots he has faced.

Buckeyes vs. Huskies
• The series this weekend marks the first time Ohio State and Connecticut will face off on the ice.
• UConn is a member of the Hockey East Association, where it is joined by Boston College, Notre Dame, Vermont, Providence, Massachusetts, UMass Lowell, Boston, New Hampshire, Merrimack, Maine and Northeastern.

The Huskies
• UConn heads into this weekend’s roads series againt the Buckeyes with a record of 3-2-4 and a 1-1-1 ledger in Hockey East action. The Huskies tied 2-2 on the road against Massachusetts in their lone contest last weekend. The team’s biggest win came on the road against No. 7/6 Notre Dame in its Hockey East opener.
• The Huskies are averaging 3.0 goals per game while allowing 2.4 goals against per game. The squad’s power play is 8-for-44 (.182) while the penalty kill is 5-for-46 (.109). The team is averaging 12.3 penalty minutes per game.
• UConn has four players tied for the team goal scoring lead with four each and three players tied for the team assists lead with five. Sophomore forward Tage Thompson leads the team with nine points (4-5-9).
• Senior Rob Nichols has started five games in net for the Huskies and has a 2.32 goals against average and a .906 save percentage. Freshman Adam Huska has started the other four and has a 2.40 goals against average and a .935 save percentage.
