Columbus, Ohio – The Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association has recognized 17 Ohio State men’s volleyball players who have been named MIVA Academic All-Conference. To be eligible, athletes must have achieved at least a 3.00 career grade-point average on a 4.0 scale after the completion of the fall semester at their respective institutions. A total of 82 players were honored by the conference.
The 2011 MIVA Academic All-Conference selections from Ohio State are: Rhett Cash, Dale Freier, Nick Gibson, Kevin Heine, Peter Heinen, Steven Kehoe, Derek Kues, Andrew Lutz, Sean Martin, Grayson Overman, Coleman Palm, Michael Piechowski, Shawn Sangrey, Mike Stefani, John Tholen, Jason Tobkin, and Alejandro Velez.
Ohio State (20-6 overall, 11-1 Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association, regular season champion) closes out the regular season with matches at 7 p.m. Saturday at George Mason (15-9, 7-2 Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association-Tait Division, 2nd place) and 5 p.m. Sunday at St. Francis (10-15, 3-7 EIVA-Tait, 4th place).
