The Ohio State women’s tennis team opened its season with wins on the court and in the community. The squad began the 2011 campaign with a doubleheader Sunday as part of “Buckeyes Go Pink,” a fundraiser for the Stefanie Spielman Fund.
The doubleheader against instate foes Cincinnati and Cleveland State drew more than 370 fans to the OSU Varsity Tennis Center Sunday. Between sponsored tables, a raffle and donations, $445 was raised for the Spielman Fund.
Ohio State alumna Stefanie Spielman and her husband, former OSU football player Chris Spielman, have helped raise more than $7.9 million to support breast cancer patients and research and participated in countless events raising awareness of breast cancer to all audiences, including Ohio State students. In November 2009, Stefanie passed away after a decade-long battle with breast cancer, leaving us with some final thoughts: Continue to Fight.
