COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State Department of Athletics is joining in the fight against breast cancer as Buckeye teams are “going pink” during the month of October. As part of Breast Cancer Awareness month, various promotions and recognitions will take place at home events.

Additionally, fans will have an opportunity to register for a chance to cruise with former Buckeyes on the Buckeye Cruise for Cancer Feb. 23-27, 2012. Proceeds from Buckeye Cruise for Cancer benefit The Stefanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research at The OSU Comprehensive Cancer Center James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute.

Chance to compete for the Buckeye Cruise for Cancer will take place at the following Ohio State home events: Friday, October 14 – Women’s Soccer vs. Iowa; 7:30 p.m. Saturday, October 22 – Women’s Volleyball vs. Michigan State; 7 p.m. Sunday, February 12, 2012 – Women’s Basketball vs. Purdue; TBA

Fans can also join the Buckeyes as they go pink at this weekend’s women’s ice hockey game vs. St. Cloud State Saturday, Oct. 15 at 4 p.m.

In addition to recognizing and remembering breast cancer survivors and fighters, these teams will add pink accents to their uniforms. Pink sweatbands will be handed out to the first 100 fans attending the women’s hockey and soccer games this weekend and the first 500 fans at women’s volleyball Oct. 22. Donations will also be accepted with all monies raised going to The Stefanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research.
