COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s tennis team wrapped up the 2011 USTA/ITA Division 1 Women’s Midwest Regional Championships Sunday after its remaining doubles duo and two singles players were defeated.

The event, hosted by Ohio State, continues with the doubles championship at 10 a.m. Monday. Singles quarterfinals and semifinals will be held Monday, as well. The singles championship is set for 10 a.m. Tuesday. All matches will be held at the Varsity Tennis Center (880 Henderson Road).

After a pair of victories in the second and third rounds, the Buckeye tandem of junior Kara Cecil and freshman Kelsey Dieters fell to third-seeded Brooke Bolender and Emina Bektas of Michigan, 8-4, in the doubles quarterfinals.

Cecil had a rough outing in singles, also, as she fell to Notre Dame’s Shannon Mathews in the Round of 16, 6-1, 6-0. Classmate Gabby Steele pushed her match against DePaul’s Patricia Fargas to a third set, but couldn’t hold off Fargas in the final frame, dropping the match, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.

Overall, the Scarlet and Gray posted five victories in main draw singles and another five wins in main draw doubles. For all information on the event, visit Tournament Central.

Ohio State wraps up its fall schedule with a trip to Tempe, Ariz., for the Arizona State Thunderbird Invitational Nov. 4-6.
