VERO BEACH, Fla.  – The Ohio State baseball team posted an undefeated opening weekend record Sunday as the Buckeyes finished with a 5-5 tie in nine innings against Toledo on Field No. 2 in Historic Dodgertown. The game ended in a draw due to travel restrictions for both schools. Ohio State is now 3-0-1 on the year, while Toledo moves to 0-3-1 in 2016.

Ohio State chalked up three runs in the top of the first vs. UT starting pitcher Kyle Slack. Junior left fielder Ronnie Dawson knocked an opposite field double to left center to plate both junior center fielder Troy Montgomery and redshirt junior right fielder Jacob Bosiokovic. Montgomery was hit by a pitch to start, while Bosiokovic walked.  Freshman Brady Cherry pushed it to three runs with a sacrifice fly.

The Rockets answered quickly with a run in the second and three in the third to take a 4-3 lead over the Buckeyes. Starting right-handed freshman pitcher Ryan Feltner limited the damage in the second with a ground ball double play, while freshman catcher Andrew Fishel threw out two runners in the contest. The Rockets scored all three runs in third on singles, including two infield hits.

Ohio State couldn’t find a run in the following four innings vs. UT reliever Alex Wagner. Senior left-handed pitcher Daulton Mosbarger relieved Feltner to begin the fifth. The native of Bellefontaine, Ohio, fanned six hitters and allowed no runs on three hits with one walk in three innings of action. Redshirt sophomore Kyle Michalik pitched the final two innings and gave up one unearned run.

The Buckeyes evened the tides in the top of the eighth with the bat and speed of Dawson. After a single, Dawson advanced to third following a wild pitch and fly out. Junior first basmen Zach Ratcliff then connected on an 0-1 pitch for a RB sac fly.

But the Rockets answered with a fifth run in the bottom half when they capitalized on an OSU fielding error, scoring on a fielder’s choice.

The Scarlet and Gray bounced back with a run in the top half when Bosiokovic registered his eighth RBI of a big offensive weekend with a sac fly to center to plate senior second baseman L Grant Davis. Michalik pitched a 1-2-3 bottom half to end the game at 5-all.

Feltner received a no decision and allowed four runs, three earned and eight hits on three strikeouts and three walks in his first appearance in the Scarlet and Gray.
