Buckeyes Finish Sixth At NCAA Championships

SARASOTA, Fla. – The No. 3 Ohio State women’s rowing team competed among the best rowing teams in the nation at the NCAA Championships, finishing sixth overall as a team with 101 points on Saturday at Nathan Benderson Park. The Fours earned the highest finish at the event, garnering bronze with a third-place finish in the Grand Final.

California claimed the team title with 130 points, winning the 1V8 and 1V4 team titles on the way.

The First Varsity Eight began the day in the first A/B semifinal, placing third at 6:27.746, behind California and Washington. The third-place finish qualified the boat for the Grand Final, with the opportunity to place in the top six and beating out conference foe Iowa with a one-second gap to secure the Grand Final spot. In the Grand Final, the 1V8 finished with a time of 6:28.527, claiming sixth overall in the nation.

The Second Varsity Eight was in a tight race for the top three finishes in the second A/B Semifinal, coming in fourth at 6:40.188, just three seconds behind Yale at 6:37.451, and qualifying for the Petite Final. In the afternoon session, the 2V8 competed in a tight petite final, finishing second in the race with a time of 6:36.597, just two seconds behind the first place Stanford. With a second place finish in the Petite Final, the Second Varsity Eight finished eighth overall.

Finishing out the morning session, the First Varsity Four took second in the first A/B semifinal, crossing the finish at 7:12.389, behind first-place Washington. The 1V4 had a two-second gap over Michigan, advancing to the Grand Final. In the last race of the day, the Fours took third overall with a time of 7:09.748, behind California and Washington.
