Senior Vaughn Snyder tied for third after opening round of 67

COLUMBUS, Ohio The Ohio State men’s golf team got off to a solid start at the Turtle Bay Resort Intercollegiate, shooting a 5-under 283 in first round play Monday. The three-day tournament opened on the par 72, 6,535-yard Fazio course in Oahu, Hawaii.

San Diego State leads the tournament at 11-under, while Texas and Texas-Arlington are three shots back.

Senior co-captain Vaughn Snyder led the Buckeyes with a career-low round of 5-under 67. The Massillon, Ohio, native is tied for third and sits one shot back from the leaders.

Junior Patrick Simard, of Marbella, Spain, also opened with a round under par. Simard fired a 71, his best round of the fall season and is tied for 26th.

Sophomore Bo Hoag was his steady self, shooting 36-36 for an even-par 72 to tie for 37th.

Finishing with matching 73s were junior co-captain Brad Wright and sophomore Brad Smith to tie for 45th.

The Turtle Bay Resort Intercollegiate continues with 18 holes Tuesday on the Palmer Course.
