COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State field hockey team fell in a neutral-site contest, 1-0, vs. No. 7 Massachusetts Saturday at Coyne Stadium in Syracuse, N.Y. The Buckeyes (2-3) will conclude action this weekend facing a second-consecutive Top 10 opponent vs. No. 6 Syracuse at 2 p.m. Sunday streamed on WatchESPN/ESPN3.
After the first half went scoreless, the Minutewomen took a 1-0 lead during the 44th minute when Brooke Sabia found the back of the cage on a penalty corner from the right side of the circle. The assists were credited to Hannah Prince and Charlotte Vereist.
The Buckeyes had their best chance to tie the game during the 58th minute but could not find the back of the net with three shots in a span of three minutes. The Scarlet and Gray had one final opportunity in the last minute of regulation on a penalty corner but an OSU shot was blocked in the circle.
Overall, Ohio State was outshot, 10-8, while the Buckeyes had a 6-5 lead in penalty corners. Ohio State goalkeeper Sarah Lemieux falls to 1-1 on the year posting five saves.
